57% of PVC by weight is made up of common salt, i.e. chloride, one of the most common materials on earth.
45% is ethylene which largely comes from oil, although ethylene from sugar crops is increasingly being used to make PVC.
To this stabilisers and additives are added to make the PVC suitable for different applications.
